The ancient Via Francigena

The village The Via Francigena

Origins

The path

The Via Francigena dates back to the Middle Ages and was the road travelled by pilgrims going to Rome.
Nowadays it continues to be a pilgrim route, like the route to Santiago de Compostela, but it also represents a different way of travelling through and discovering Tuscany. The road presents a journey through time, slow and in contact with nature.
Borgo Gallinaio is situated about 400 meters (1300 ft) from the start of Monteriggioni-Siena route, while the section from Monteriggioni to San Gimignano is a little over 1 km (0.6 mi) away.
The path is well maintained and signposted and we can help to organise the transportation of your luggage.
In addition to serving dinner and breakfast, we can provide a packed lunch which will help you to resume your journey.
Finally, the laundry is available for walkers who need to wash their clothes and also a secure space is available for storing bikes.

Have a good trip!
